  • About Our Garden

Inspired by the Edible Schoolyard Project, our garden incorporates organic fruit and vegetable gardening, edible flowers and drought tolerant plants. Our goal is to expose students to the therapeutic benefits of gardening, sustainability and edible education. The Garden is managed and run by volunteer parents and kids. This year, North Garden is growing vegetables to donate to the Samaritan House: Food Pharmacy. This is a collaborative project with Second Harvest and the Samaritan House that allows volunteer physicians to prescribe healthy fresh foods for low income patients who have diabetes. Once our vegetables are ripe for picking, we plan to make weekly drops directly to Samaritan House of San Mateo. If you have a vegetable garden or backyard orchard, please consider donating any excess vegetables or fruits from your home garden. Starting September 16th, you can now take fresh, undamaged produce from your garden on Thursdays between 3 pm - 6 pm to our food donation container inside the North Garden. Please send an email to northschoolgarden@gmail.com when you drop off or have questions about what is acceptable to harvest and donate or to arrange a donation pickup.
